Today, President Bola Tinubu is set to swear in seven newly-appointed ministers. This announcement was confirmed by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, in a Sunday statement.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will swear in the new seven ministers tomorrow, Monday,” Onanuga stated. The new appointees include Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction; Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi as Minister of Labour & Employment; and Bianca Odinaka Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
Additional appointments are Dr. Jumoke Oduwole for Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment (Trade and Investment); Idi Mukhtar Maiha for Minister of Livestock Development; Yusuf Abdullahi Ata as Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development; and Dr. Suwaiba Said Ahmad as Minister of State for Education.
The appointments follow Senate confirmation last week after the nominees were screened. President Tinubu reshuffled the cabinet amid mounting calls for change, dismissing five ministers and reassigning 10 others to new portfolios. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu’s appointment as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs replaces former officeholder Betta Edu.
In the recent changes, Tinubu relieved Uju-Ken Ohanenye of her role as Minister of Women Affairs; Lola Ade-John as Minister of Tourism; Tahir Mamman as Minister of Education; Abdullahi Gwarzo as Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development; and Jamila Ibrahim as Minister of Youth Development.
This reshuffle comes a little over a year after the initial appointment of 48 ministers in August 2023, aimed at responding to economic challenges and strengthening the administration’s effectiveness.
