President Bola Tinubu has dismissed five ministers from his cabinet and appointed seven new ministers, subject to Senate confirmation, as part of a major cabinet reshuffle. In addition, ten ministers have been reassigned to new positions. The President’s office made the announcement on Wednesday, stating that the changes were part of broader efforts to enhance the administration’s efficiency in delivering on its promises to Nigerians.
The five ministers removed from office are Uju-Ken Ohanenye (Women Affairs), Lola Ade-John (Tourism), Tahir Mamman (Education), Abdullahi Gwarzo (State Housing and Urban Development), and Jamila Ibrahim (Youth Development). The seven newly appointed ministers are Nentawe Yilwatda, Muhammadu Dingyadi, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Jumoke Oduwole, Idi Maiha, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, and Suwaiba Ahmad.
The presidency clarified that these changes are part of “eight far-reaching actions” designed to improve governance. These actions include the renaming of the Ministry of Niger Delta Development to the Ministry of Regional Development, the winding up of the Ministry of Sports Development, and the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Arts and Culture to form the Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy.
Additionally, the President reassigned several ministers to new portfolios. Among them, Yusuf Tanko Sununu moves to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Morufu Alausa to the Ministry of Education, and Ayodele Olawande becomes the Minister of Youth Development. Sunday Dare, former Sports Minister under Buhari’s administration, has been appointed as the Special Adviser on Public Communication and Orientation.
Tinubu emphasized that the reshuffle is aimed at reinvigorating the government’s capacity to achieve sustainable growth and urged the newly appointed and reassigned ministers to deliver on their responsibilities.
