President Tinubu Promotes Acting Army Chief Olufemi Oluyede to Lieutenant General

President Bola Tinubu has promoted and decorated the acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Olufemi Oluyede, with the rank of Lieutenant General. The ceremony took place on Tuesday at the President’s Office.

In a statement from his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu commended the military for its courage, dedication, and patriotism in securing the nation. “It is both an honor and a privilege to decorate you today,” Tinubu remarked, praising Lt. Gen. Oluyede for his exceptional service and leadership within the armed forces.

The President assured the military of ongoing government support and emphasized the crucial role of maintaining peace and stability in Nigeria. He credited recent strides in combating terrorism and banditry to the synergy among the armed forces and urged the service chiefs to continue fostering this collaboration for national security.

Lt. Gen. Oluyede expressed his gratitude for the promotion, reaffirming his commitment to the vision of Nigerian Army leadership and pledging to maintain peace across the nation.

Oluyede, who has participated in multiple military operations, including ECOMOG in Liberia and Operation Hadin Kai in the North-East, were elevated from Major General to Lieutenant General following his appointment as acting COAS, pending the return of Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, who is on medical leave.
