In a move aimed at reducing government expenses, President Bola Tinubu has ordered that ministers, ministers of state, and heads of federal agencies limit their official convoys to no more than three vehicles. According to presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, these officials will not receive any additional vehicles.
Furthermore, the President has stipulated that each minister, minister of state, and agency head can have a maximum of five security personnel, comprising four police officers and one officer from the Department of State Services (DSS). Onanuga reiterated that no additional security staff would be permitted.
President Tinubu has assigned National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu the responsibility of collaborating with military, paramilitary, and security agencies to determine suitable reductions in their vehicle and security personnel allocations. Compliance with these new directives is mandatory for all officials affected, underscoring the importance and urgency of the situation.
Earlier this year, President Tinubu initiated cost-cutting measures by trimming his foreign travel entourage from 50 to 20 officials and capping local trip delegations at 25 officials. Similarly, Vice President Kashim Shettima’s entourage has been reduced to five officials for foreign trips and 15 for local journeys.
