Presidency Dismisses Rumors of Tinubu Asking CBN Governor to Resign

The Presidency has firmly denied rumors claiming that President Bola Tinubu requested the resignation of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Olayemi Cardoso. Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, Bayo Onanuga, refuted the reports on his social media platform, labeling them as “all lies.”

Onanuga clarified, stating, “It’s all lies. President Tinubu has not asked Yemi Cardoso to resign.” This statement directly contradicts earlier unverified reports suggesting that the President had allegedly ordered Cardoso’s resignation due to economic concerns and the Naira’s depreciation.

The false reports also speculated that Yoruba Elders had intervened to prevent Cardoso’s resignation, indicating that his initial appointment was influenced by their support. The Presidency’s denial aims to put these rumors to rest.
