Africa’s wealthiest man, Aliko Dangote, alongside his associates, extended a condolence visit to the grieving aged parents of the late Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings PLC, Herbert Wigwe.
Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State made this known in a post on social media, expressing sympathy with Pastor Shyngle Wigwe and his wife, Mrs. Stella Wigwe, in the wake of their profound loss.
The tragic helicopter accident claimed the lives of their son, his wife, and their grandson.
“In the company of Dr. Aliko Dangote and a group of close friends and associates, we gathered to express our heartfelt condolences to Pastor Shyngle Wigwe and his wife, Mrs. Stella Wigwe,” the governor stated.
“These sorrowful parents have suffered the loss of their beloved sons, Mr. Herbert Wigwe, Mrs. Chizoba, and his son Chizi, in a tragic helicopter accident.
“During this solemn visit, we fervently beseech God to grant eternal peace to the departed souls and bring solace to the grieving families they have left behind.”
During the solemn visit, prayers were offered for the departed souls and comfort sought for the bereaved families grappling with the tragic loss.
Dangote and Abiodun were accompanied by prominent figures including Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, Chairman of Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation; Atedo Peterside, Founder of Stanbic IBTC and Anap Foundation; and political economist, Prof Pat Utomi, among others.
In a related development, United States authorities revealed that witness accounts suggested inclement weather, including rain and wintry conditions, prevailed at the time of the fatal helicopter crash in California near the Nevada border last Friday.
The crash claimed the lives of Herbert Wigwe, his wife, son, and a former Group Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group, Abimbola Ogunbanjo, along with two other crew members.
National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) member, Michael Graham, shared insights during a briefing on Sunday, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident.
“Witness reports to the weather condition at the time of the accident suggest rain and a wintry mix,” he said.
