Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the party, while also reiterating his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Obi made the declaration on Friday during the official campaign flag-off for the LP governorship candidate in Anambra State, George Moghalu, and his running mate, Lady Ifeoma Okaro.
Speaking at the event, Obi addressed public speculation regarding his political affiliation following his involvement in a new opposition coalition, which recently adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform for the 2027 general elections.
“Let me put it categorically clear,” Obi stated. “I and the National Assembly members of the Labour Party are part of the coalition that has adopted ADC for the 2027 election… But today, we are members of the Labour Party.”
He emphasized that his alliance with other opposition parties does not equate to a departure from the Labour Party, but rather a strategy to build a broader and stronger political front for the forthcoming elections.
“If anybody asks you which party Peter Obi belongs to today, tell them Peter Obi is in the Labour Party. If anybody asks you about the coalition, tell them the coalition is for 2027,” he added.
The former Anambra State governor also confirmed his intention to seek the presidency again in 2027, saying: “Everyone has the right to run for president; I won’t stop anyone. But if anyone asks, let them know I am in the race, and no one does it better than me.”
Moghalu Vows God-Fearing, Inclusive Governance
George Moghalu, the Labour Party’s flagbearer in the upcoming November 8, 2025, Anambra governorship election, used the occasion to outline his vision for the state.
“We will govern Anambra with the fear of God and rely heavily on the grace of God,” Moghalu declared, promising to lead with integrity, transparency, and people-centered policies.
He also pledged to implement a responsible taxation system, distancing his administration from the use of violent revenue enforcers.
“Although my administration will ask people to pay tax, we will never unleash pestle-wielding touts on the good people of the state,” he said. “Let us unite with purpose and resolve to shape a brighter and more inclusive Anambra. Together, we move forward—for the people, and with the people.”
Also present at the rally, Anambra State Labour Party Chairman, Ugochukwu Emeh, said the event was a demonstration of the party’s unity and grassroots strength.
“Our presence here today reflects our commitment to equity, good governance, and a leadership that prioritizes the people,” Emeh said.
