Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has vowed that the party will present a formidable challenge to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Thursday during the opening session of the PDP’s 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, Governor Mohammed said the party has shown resilience and is actively working behind the scenes to reposition itself as a credible alternative.
“PDP is a party that has shown resilience. We are working behind the scenes to ensure that we remain intact, to create a platform for Nigerians,” he said.
“The governors recognise the challenges faced by the NWC and they have shown that they are with us. We will give the APC a big fight in 2027. We are strong and working together.”
Also speaking, Secretary of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) and former Governor of Kaduna State, Ahmed Makarfi, emphasized the need to convene an elective national convention that will produce new national officers.
“The outcome of the convention will determine the political landscape. We must work hard to ensure we survive,” Makarfi said.
“We must guard our utterances in order not to complicate the issues. At the end of the tunnel, there will be light. PDP will come back.”
Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro (PDP, Benue South), described the NEC meeting as a strategic step toward rebuilding the party and sustaining its legacy since 1999.
On the defection of PDP senators to the APC, Moro said:
“Some people are in politics by accident. They gravitate from one party to another for survival.”
He assured that the remaining PDP lawmakers in the National Assembly are committed to restoring the party’s fortunes and preparing it for victory in 2027.
