PDP Vows to Hold 2025 National Convention Despite APC Interference

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed that its 2025 National Convention will proceed this weekend in Ibadan, Oyo State, dismissing what it described as “desperate attempts” by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to obstruct the event.

The opposition party maintained that the convention, scheduled from Saturday, November 15, to Sunday, November 16, 2025, has not been postponed.

In a statement signed by Hon. Debo Ologunagba, PDP National Publicity Secretary and Secretary of the Publicity Sub-Committee for the Convention, the party urged members and supporters to ignore “false and misleading reports” allegedly spread by the APC.

“The National Working Committee (NWC) and the 2025 National Convention Organizing Committee (NCOC) of the PDP inform all party members and the general public that the 2025 National Convention of the PDP has not been postponed but will go on as scheduled on Saturday, 15th to Sunday, 16th November, 2025, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital,” Ologunagba stated.

He accused the APC of sponsoring fake news to create confusion and derail the PDP’s internal democratic process.
“The NWC and the NCOC urge party members and Nigerians to disregard misleading claims being peddled by individuals recruited by the APC in its failed attempt to stop the PDP National Convention,” the statement added.

Ologunagba also alleged that the ruling party is attempting to destabilize the opposition and impose a one-party state in Nigeria.
“We are aware of the plots by the APC to destabilize the opposition and impose a one-party state in the country  a design that will be lawfully resisted,” he said.

Meanwhile, an Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has extended its interim order restraining any interference with the PDP’s planned convention. The order, initially granted to safeguard the party’s right to assemble, will remain in effect until Friday, when the substantive case resumes.

It is recalled that the same court issued a similar order last week following reports of internal pressure and political interference aimed at halting preparations for the event.
