PDP Suspends BoT Chairman Adolphus Wabara Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended its Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, following allegations of anti-party activities.

The suspension was announced after a State Executive Council (SEC) meeting in Umuahia, chaired by Abia State Chairman Abraham Amah. The party stated that Wabara’s actions were unbecoming of a former Senate President and the BoT Chairman.

The PDP’s accusations stem from Wabara’s unilateral endorsement of Labour Party (LP) Governor Alex Otti for a second term, just five months into his first term. The party argues that this action tarnished the party’s reputation and violated its constitution. Despite being given time to apologise, Wabara reportedly refused to do so.

The party’s decision to suspend Wabara followed a motion by Chief Chizuru Kanu, Treasurer of Abia PDP, and seconded by Prince Obinna Okey, Organizing Secretary. The motion cited Wabara’s endorsement of Otti as a clear violation of the PDP’s constitution (2017, as amended), specifically Articles 58(c) and (f), and Article 59(1).

A seven-man disciplinary committee has been set up to investigate Wabara’s conduct. In line with party protocols, Wabara is barred from holding any party office and has been removed from his position as BoT Chairman.

This suspension highlights the ongoing factional struggles within the party, with competing factions loyal to figures like Nyesom Wike and others exerting influence over decisions like the selection of the National Secretary.
