PDP Declares Hon. Imo Ugochinyere’s Expulsion Null and Void

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has nullified the purported expulsion of Hon. Imo Ugochinyere by the Umuopia/Umukegwu Ward chapter in Imo State, deeming it unconstitutional and invalid.

In a statement on Saturday, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, clarified that the action contravened Sections 57 (7) and 59 (3) of the party’s Constitution (as amended in 2017).

Citing Section 57 (7), Ologunagba stated, “No Executive Committee at any level, except the National Executive Committee, shall entertain any question of discipline as may relate or concern a member of the National Executive Committee, Deputy Governors, or members of the National Assembly.”

Additionally, he referred to Section 59 (3), which specifies that “no Executive Committee at any level except the National Executive Committee shall entertain any question of discipline as may relate or concern a member of the National Executive Committee, President, Vice President, Governors, Deputy Governors, Ministers, Ambassadors, Special Advisers, or members of any Legislative Houses.”

Ologunagba emphasized that no Ward, Local Government, or State chapter has the authority to discipline, suspend, or expel a member of the National Assembly without due recourse to the NWC.

“The PDP is an organized political party governed by strict adherence to its Constitution and Rules. The NWC will not tolerate violations under any circumstances,” he stated.

The NWC reaffirmed that Hon. Imo Ugochinyere Ikeagwuonu remains a bona fide member of the PDP with full rights, privileges, and recognition. The committee urged party members and stakeholders in Imo State and beyond to disregard the expulsion and remain united.

The NWC further called on PDP members in Imo State to work collectively for the benefit of the party and the people.
