Former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, has reaffirmed her decision not to return to Aso Rock Villa and pledged full support for First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in Abuja on Saturday night after receiving the Women Icon Leader of the Year award from Accolade Dynamics Limited, Mrs. Jonathan emphasized her commitment to national unity through rotational leadership and expressed her readiness to campaign for Senator Tinubu.
“There is only one president at a time,” she said. “When it’s your turn, I will support you. When it’s not your turn, step back — so that the country can move forward.”
Mrs. Jonathan also commended Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, the Iyaloja-General of Nigeria and daughter of the President, for her role in supporting Nigerian women.
Reflecting on her close relationship with Senator Tinubu, she recalled their collaboration dating back to her time as a deputy governor’s wife. “We worked together. Even when my husband was vice president, they supported us. I have a conscience. I cannot abandon my friend,” she stated.
Dispelling any political comeback rumors, the former First Lady said, “I’m not running. I’m not going back to the villa. If you call me, I will not go. Don’t you like how young I look? It’s because I have rest of mind.”
In a lighthearted remark, she added, “Let my friend be there. Let me also wahala her the way she used to wahala me when I was there!”
