Oyo State Governor Appoints 45 Permanent Secretaries, Three Executive Secretaries

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has announced the appointment of 45 Permanent Secretaries and three Executive Secretaries across various sectors within the state civil service.

The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, disclosed this on Friday, stating that the appointments were outlined in a document signed by the Head of Service, Mrs. Olubunmi Oni.

The appointments include:

  • 16 Permanent Secretaries in the mainstream civil service.
  • 6 Inspectors General of Education.
  • 6 Permanent Secretaries for the health sector.
  • 7 Permanent Secretaries in the local government sector.
  • 1 Permanent Secretary/Clerk of the House of Assembly.
  • 1 newly appointed Surveyor General.
  • 9 Tutors General.

Prince Oyelade highlighted the governor’s progressive approach to governance, breaking from traditional practices by expanding the number of Permanent Secretaries, particularly in the Local Government sector, which now has seven appointees.

“This move reflects Governor Makinde’s commitment to ensuring effective administration and enhancing service delivery in previously underserved sectors,” Oyelade said.

Key reforms include the introduction of zonal executive secretaries in the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and appointing Permanent Secretaries to oversee zonal offices in the health sector, replacing the practice of hospital-based leadership.

Oyelade also underscored the Makinde administration’s dedication to worker welfare, citing the recruitment of over 23,000 government employees. He revealed that the state has allocated ₦143 billion annually for salaries, beginning this month, positioning Oyo State as a leader in civil servant welfare across the Federation.

“These appointments and investments underscore the administration’s commitment to rewarding hard work and creating a more efficient civil service,” Oyelade concluded.
