Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State announced the approval of hazard allowances for the State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) personnel, starting from Thursday, August 1, 2024.
This announcement was made during the passing-out parade of 500 newly recruited OYRTMA officers and the inauguration of new marshals at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Iseyin on Monday
During the event, Governor Makinde also inaugurated the Head of Service, Olubunmi Oni, alongside two permanent secretaries—G.O Oyedele for General Administration and Akeem Salami for Cabinet and Special Services—and 47 others as Marshals. He emphasized that this measure would enable the personnel to contribute significantly to the state’s progress through dedicated service.
The governor highlighted the administration’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of its workers since taking office in 2019. “You asked for hazard allowance and I agree with you that you face quite a lot of hazards. The work we have asked you to do is fraught with a lot of hazards. So, your hazard allowance is approved and will be effective August 1, 2024. I want to wish you well and thank you for the work you are doing for our state,” he said.
He urged the newly inducted OYRTMA Marshals to remain focused and avoid self-enrichment at the expense of their duties. Governor Makinde underscored the importance of the recruitment in strengthening OYRTMA, which, in turn, upholds the rule of law, particularly in traffic regulation. He announced that the Oyo State Mobilisation Agency for Socio-Economic Development would educate the public about these laws.
