In a show of unwavering support, elected officials and party leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State have expressed full confidence in Governor Seyi Makinde, lauding his administration’s governance record and pledging party unity as the 2027 general elections approach.
The endorsement emerged from a strategic stakeholders’ meeting held on Sunday at Jagz Hotel, Iyaganku, Ibadan, where PDP elected representatives, lawmakers, and party executives gathered to evaluate state governance and chart the party’s political course.
According to a communiqué issued by Dayo Ogungbenro, participants praised Governor Makinde for his prudent management of resources, dedication to transparency, and commitment to accountability. The governor’s focus on workers’ welfare, including the regular payment of salaries and pensions, was also widely commended.
The meeting highlighted the administration’s significant progress in settling inherited gratuity arrears exceeding ₦36 billion, with assurances that all gratuities accrued under Makinde’s tenure will be fully paid before his term concludes.
“Stakeholders unanimously recognized the governor’s exemplary stewardship of state resources and his unwavering dedication to transparent governance,” Ogungbenro said.
Lawmakers and party leaders also spotlighted major infrastructure projects, including the Ibadan Circular Road and the ongoing upgrade of Ladoke Akintola Airport to international standards. These developments, they noted, are expected to open new investment corridors, expand economic opportunities, and drive sustainable growth across the state.
Beyond governance achievements, the meeting addressed internal party challenges in some zones and local government areas, with stakeholders committing to resolving disputes and strengthening cohesion within the PDP.
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, the party reaffirmed its determination to remain united, disciplined, and loyal under the PDP platform, working collectively to sustain political dominance in Oyo State.
The gathering was attended by members of the House of Representatives, including Adedeji Stanley Olajide, Anthony Adebayo Adepoju, Oyesina Najimdeen Oyedeji, and Sunday Makanjuola, as well as Folajimi Oyekunle. Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, led PDP lawmakers from the state assembly. Party executives, local government chairmen, and leaders from across the state also participated, culminating in a renewed pledge to support Governor Makinde’s administration in delivering development projects and enhanced welfare for residents.
