Oyo 2027: Adelabu Set to Resign, Joins Governorship Race

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, is set to resign from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet in the coming days after informing the President of his decision to pursue the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket in Oyo State.

According to a statement by his Media Adviser, Bolaji Tunji, Adelabu met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, where he submitted his performance report and disclosed his political ambition.

The minister is expected to formally step down from office in the coming days after receiving the President’s approval and blessing to contest in the 2027 governorship election.

During the meeting, Adelabu presented a comprehensive report of his stewardship in the power sector, highlighting efforts to stabilise electricity generation, improve transmission capacity, and drive reforms across the sector.

He also presented the National Integrated Electricity Policy (NIEP), its Strategic Implementation Plan (SIP), and a Medium-Long Term Resource Plan designed to guide reforms and ensure sector sustainability.

The statement noted that President Tinubu commended the minister for his efforts and the policy foundation laid in the power sector, while also approving his political ambition.

Adelabu expressed appreciation to the President for his support and reaffirmed his commitment to Nigeria’s power sector reforms and national development before his exit from office.
