The Osun State Caucus in the National Assembly has condemned the violent takeover of local government secretariats across the state, blaming Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, for allegedly orchestrating the move.
The lawmakers described the development as an invitation to anarchy, accusing Oyetola of working with security agencies and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to destabilize the state. They urged President Bola Tinubu to direct the National Security Adviser (NSA) and the Attorney-General of the Federation to intervene and uphold the rule of law.
Reports indicate that several individuals, including Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members and council workers, have been shot, brutalized, and harassed in the clashes.
Meanwhile, the Southwest PDP and the National Action Group (NAG) have called for urgent action to prevent further violence, urging both Governor Ademola Adeleke and Oyetola to seek a legal resolution to the dispute.
The escalating tensions have reportedly led to at least four deaths, with many others injured in clashes between suspected APC and PDP loyalists. Confrontations have been reported in Atakumosa West and Boripe LGAs, where armed groups attempted to seize control of secretariats.
In response, Governor Adeleke has ordered residents and politicians to stay away from council secretariats to prevent further bloodshed. He reassured citizens of their safety and directed security forces to take control of the affected areas.
As the crisis unfolds, stakeholders continue to call for dialogue and restraint to prevent further escalation.
