Victor Osimhen and Alhassan Yusuf were notable omissions from Monday’s Super Eagles training session as preparations kicked off for Nigeria’s upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON) match.
Following a 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea in their tournament opener, the team is eager to make a strong comeback.
While Osimhen and Yusuf reportedly appeared for training, they were restricted from participation.
Osimhen reportedly complained to the coaching staff as soon as the team’s bus arrived, but the exact nature and severity of his injury remain unknown as of the time of filing this report.
Team Media Officer, Babafemi Raji, clarified that their decision to abstain from training on Monday was a precautionary measure.
Despite the absence of these key players, the squad received a boost with the inclusion of OC Nice’s Terem Moffi and Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho, offering additional options for the team.
Looking ahead, the Super Eagles are gearing up to face Cote D’Ivoire’s Elephants on Thursday at the Stade Olympique Alassan Ouattara Stadium.
