Former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom and Senator Samuel Anyanwu have stated that they will not appear before the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) National Disciplinary Committee (NDC) unless they receive formal invitations.
The committee, chaired by former Foreign Affairs Minister Tom Ikimi, has scheduled Ortom, Anyanwu, and 10 unnamed party members to appear on February 12, 2025. However, the identities of the other individuals remain undisclosed, with committee officials withholding details.
Internal party conflicts have deepened since the 2023 presidential election, leading to accusations of sabotage and factional disputes. In response, the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) set up the disciplinary committee in August 2024 to address grievances and recommend actions.
A key issue fueling tensions is the dispute over the National Secretary position, with former National Youth Leader Sunday Ude-Okoye and Anyanwu both claiming the seat. While Ude-Okoye has the backing of the Board of Trustees and the PDP Governors’ Forum, the matter remains unresolved.
Ortom’s media aide, Terver Akase, confirmed his principal’s willingness to appear but noted that no official invitation had been received.
Similarly, Anyanwu stated, “I read it in the news. I have not received any invitation. But as a loyal and faithful party member, when I receive their letter, I will honour it.”
A senior NWC member, speaking anonymously, revealed that no invitations had been sent yet but may be dispatched on Monday. The source emphasized that the party prioritizes reconciliation over punishment, with possible recommendations ranging from apologies to warnings or suspensions, while expulsions remain unlikely.
