Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has unveiled plans to establish a state-of-the-art cancer treatment centre to improve patient care. Speaking at a scorecard presentation in Akure, represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Awolowo Banji Ajaka, and Special Adviser on Health, Prof. Simi Odimayo, the governor emphasized the growing need for timely cancer treatment. “We will create a Cancer Treatment Centre in Ondo State to alleviate patient struggles, including long waiting periods at facilities in Lagos,” he stated.
In addition, the governor highlighted the success of the Abiyamo Maternal and Child Health Insurance Scheme (AMCHIS), which has facilitated the birth of over 4,265 babies, including 380 sets of twins, 10 sets of triplets, and two sets of quadruplets since its inception. Launched in 2022 under the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the program offers free healthcare to pregnant women and children under five, aiming to reduce maternal mortality.
Governor Aiyedatiwa also announced the expansion of healthcare services through the Ondo State Contributory Health Commission, which now covers 56,700 enrollees across 203 wards in all 18 Local Government Areas, as part of efforts to achieve Universal Health Coverage.
