Ondo Police Rescue 50 Children Locked In A Church Basement

Ondo town’s police confirmed on Friday that 50 children who had been locked in a church basement had been released.

They were allegedly discovered in a church’s basement apartment in the town’s Valentino area.

The children were allegedly taken hostage and kept in the church’s basement apartment for trafficking.

While the children were being taken into custody, the police detained the church pastor, whose identity has not yet been made public.

Some church members were also arrested by the police.

Preliminary investigations were ongoing, according to PREMIUM TIMES’s interview with Funmilayo Odunlami, the state’s police spokeswoman.

She said further work was ongoing to establish the details of the crime.

Mrs. Odunlami noted that the victims had been taken to the State CID in Akure headquarters of the command.

“The command is aware of a case of suspected abduction in the Valentino area of Ondo Town,” she said.

“We urge the good people of Ondo State to be calm as the State Criminal Investigation Department has taken over the case.”
