Precious Ofure Omonkhoa was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in connection with a claimed $200,000 bitcoin investment fraud.
Wilson Uwujaren, EFCC spokesman who verified the arrest, said Omonkhoa was detained on November 8, 2021, in Ikoyi, Lagos, after the commission got credible intelligence concerning his illicit operations.
He allegedly pretended to be Moshem Cnich, a Swedish national, to swindle unsuspecting victims of their hard-earned money by pretending to run a bitcoin scheme in which people could invest money and profit handsomely.
According to Uwujaren, preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was involved in a dating scam and had defrauded two Canadian victims.
Upon his arrest, the suspect admitted to laundering the proceeds of his criminal activities by purchasing a $150,000 piece of land.
A bitcoin wallet containing $50,000 was discovered during his arrest. The culprit will be charged in court very shortly.
