Old National Anthem Signals New Revolution – Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio declared that the reintroduction of the old national anthem, “Nigeria We Hail Thee,” marks the start of a long-awaited revolution for Nigerians.
He said that this development fosters a sense of brotherhood across different tribes and languages.
Akpabio made these remarks on Wednesday during a joint session of the National Assembly, celebrating the one-year anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He praised Tinubu’s achievements over the past year, highlighting the significance of reinstating the old anthem during his first year in office.
Akpabio stated, “Among all the notable accomplishments, the most profound is our return to our roots. Despite our diverse tribes and tongues, we shall now see ourselves as brothers. In battles, sports, and other endeavors, we must hail Nigeria.”
He also noted Tinubu’s respect for the parliament, describing his visit to the National Assembly as a “waka pass,” a term used in Nollywood. Akpabio said, “You planned to celebrate Democracy Day on June 12, but out of respect for the National Assembly, you chose to visit us first. The National Assembly represents the voice of Nigeria.”
In response, President Tinubu expressed gratitude to the lawmakers for their support, acknowledging them as the rare leaders Nigeria needs. He stated, “I came to say thank you. You are leaders who speak for our people, forefront in our struggle.
This institution represents our collective consciousness for freedom and belonging. You unveiled the old national anthem, ‘Nigeria We Hail Thee,’ celebrating our diversity.”
