In a sweeping political realignment, former Delta State Governor and 2023 PDP vice presidential candidate, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), taking with him the sitting Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the entire Delta State structure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The mass defection was announced during an expanded stakeholders’ meeting held Wednesday at the Government House in Asaba, signaling a major shift in the political landscape of the oil-rich state.
Confirming the development, Senator James Manager stated:
“All PDP members in the state, including the governor, former Governor Okowa, the Speaker, the state party chairman, all the local government chairmen and others, have agreed to move to the APC. We cannot continue to be in a sinking boat.”
Ahead of the official declaration, a video of Okowa addressing his supporters in his native dialect began circulating on social media. In the video, he reassured his base of a purposeful political decision.
“Be assured that we will not go in the wrong direction. We will take the best direction, the best path for our people,” he said.
The move is expected to reshape Delta’s political dynamics and could significantly influence the build-up to the 2027 general elections.
