A Chinese power generation company, CCETC, has announced plans to establish a power generation plant and an industrial park in Ogun State.
The company’s chairman, Mr. Guo Xianda, disclosed this during a meeting with Governor Dapo Abiodun at the Governor’s Office in Abeokuta over the weekend. Xianda revealed that CCETC would install a 3MW power plant at the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport, Iperu-Ilishan, free of charge, to boost economic activities in the area.
The pledge follows Governor Abiodun’s recent investment tour of China, where he met with global investors in the technology, energy, and manufacturing sectors.
Xianda said the Jiangsu-based firm already operates over 250MW of power projects in Nigeria and other African countries, with a total generation and distribution capacity exceeding 5,000MW. He added that CCETC’s interests in Ogun State include power generation and distribution, investment in the state’s transmission network, and the development of an industrial park to attract more Chinese manufacturers.
In his response, Governor Abiodun commended the company’s decision to invest in Ogun, describing it as a major boost to the state’s sustainable energy and industrialization goals.
“The company will strategically focus on three key areas: strengthening power generation and distribution, investing in the state’s transmission network, and establishing an industrial park to attract manufacturers while integrating power projects,” Abiodun said.
The governor is also expected to lead the CCETC delegation on an inspection tour of ongoing power and distribution infrastructure projects being executed by Sahara and Powergen, as part of efforts to ensure stable electricity supply across the state.
