Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has declared the upcoming governorship election a crucial struggle, describing it as a “do-or-die affair.” He warned that a victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) would spell disaster for the people of Edo.
Obaseki stated, “It’s a do-or-die affair because if they win, we perish. The level of impunity and recklessness displayed by the opposition party means that if they gain control of Edo State, it will be the end.”
In an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, he emphasized the ability of Edo voters to make informed decisions without outside influence. He indirectly referenced Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, who has withdrawn his support for the PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo.
“Edo people are not naive. They know who to vote for and do not need an outsider to guide their choices. This time, Edo voters will decide based on their own interests,” Obaseki asserted. Despite his differences with Wike and other political figures, Obaseki remains confident in the PDP’s prospects in the election, claiming that these political tensions will not hinder the party’s performance.
Responding to criticism regarding his administration’s financial management, Obaseki addressed his detractors, stating, “Some politicians are unhappy with me because I have used government revenue to meet the people’s needs.”
