NYSC Debunks Claims of N70,000 Monthly Allowance for Corps Members

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has refuted claims that it directed corps members to upgrade their accounts for the payment of a N70,000 monthly allowance.
It’s important to recall that the monthly allowances for corps members have traditionally been based on the nation’s official minimum wage for public servants.
Recently, President Bola Tinubu signed the National Minimum Wage Bill 2024 into law, setting the minimum wage at N70,000 for workers in both the public and private sectors.
In response to circulating rumors, NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations, Mr. Eddy Megwa, issued a statement on Sunday clarifying that the information about a new allowance for corps members is entirely false.
“Corps members, parents, and the public should be aware that no directive regarding this matter has been received from any government agency responsible for wage issues. Therefore, it is impossible for the NYSC to issue such a directive,” he said.
Mr. Megwa emphasized that corps members are already familiar with the approved channels and modes of communication within the scheme and should disregard any unauthorized directives. He urged corps members to avoid being misled by false information.
Additionally, Mr. Megwa cautioned bloggers and social media influencers against making unauthorized statements about NYSC management.
