NNPCL Begins Operations at Warri Refinery

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has officially launched operations at the 125,000 barrels per day Warri Refining & Petrochemicals Company (WRPC) located in Warri, Delta State. The announcement was made by Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL, during a tour of the facility on Monday.

Situated in Ekpan, Uwvie, and Ubeji in Warri, WRPC is a key petrochemical plant producing 13,000 metric tons per annum (MTA) of polypropylene and 18,000 MTA of carbon black. The plant, commissioned in 1978, plays a vital role in Nigeria’s petrochemical industry.

Kyari expressed enthusiasm about the progress, stating, “We are taking you through our plant. This plant is running. Although it is not 100 percent complete, we are still in the process. Many people think these things are not real. They think real things are not possible in this country. We want you to see that this is real.”

Also present at the tour was Farouk Ahmen, CEO of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), who witnessed the commencement of operations at the refinery.
