The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, John Tsoho, has reassigned the terrorism case against Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to a new judge after months of pressure.
Kanu’s special counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, disclosed the development in a statement on Saturday, confirming that the decision followed Justice Binta Nyako’s recusal from the case.
Kanu had previously accused Nyako of bias and requested her withdrawal during a court hearing on September 24, 2024.
His legal team received official notification from both the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, confirming the reassignment.
Kanu expressed gratitude to the Chief Justice for her swift intervention and reiterated his readiness to stand trial, maintaining his innocence. His legal team emphasized that the reassignment was crucial to ensuring a fair and speedy hearing.
