NJC Debunks Report on CJN Ordering Nnamdi Kanu’s Release

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has dismissed as false a report alleging that the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, ordered the release of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, and his repatriation to Kenya.

In a statement signed by its Deputy Director of Information, Kemi Babalola Ogedengbe, the NJC described the report as a fabrication with no factual basis.

The Council clarified that no court ruling or judgment had been issued to that effect and that Justice Kekere-Ekun had never presided over any Supreme Court case concerning Kanu.

Additionally, the NJC refuted claims that the CJN had written a letter to the Kenyan government or its High Commission apologizing for Kanu’s arrest and trial.

The Council urged the public to disregard the false report and warned against the spread of misinformation.
