Ms. Adefunke Adeyemi has been re-elected as Secretary General of the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC) at the 35th ordinary plenary session held in Brazzaville, Congo, on Thursday. Adeyemi secured a decisive victory with 22 votes in her favor and 7 against, demonstrating strong support from AFCAC member-states for her leadership.
Her re-election underscores her exceptional contributions to African aviation and the confidence member states place in her leadership. Tunde Moshood, Special Adviser to Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, praised the success, attributing it to the minister’s strategic diplomatic efforts during the conference, which garnered support from African Union member states.
Keyamo expressed pride in Adeyemi’s leadership, calling it a win not just for Nigeria, but for the entire African aviation industry. He also highlighted her visionary approach, which has positioned AFCAC to spearhead transformative progress and support the realization of the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM).
AFCAC, a specialized agency of the African Union, plays a pivotal role in overseeing civil aviation across Africa and advancing the objectives of the Yamoussoukro Decision (YD). Under Adeyemi’s leadership, the commission has made significant strides in enhancing air transport efficiency, safety, and regional collaboration.
With her renewed mandate, Adeyemi is set to continue strengthening Africa’s aviation sector and advancing AFCAC’s role in boosting the continent’s aviation competitiveness and connectivity.
