Nigeria Striker Josh Maja Leaves Bordeaux

Josh Maja
Days after his contract with the French Ligue 2 club expired on July 1, Nigerian striker Josh Maja left Bordeaux.
The 24-year-old Maja led the team’s effort to secure immediate re-entry into Ligue 1 in the 2022–2023 season, scoring 16 goals in the second division as the team narrowly missed promotion.
Josh Maja and Bordeaux had a clause in their contract that would have automatically renewed their agreement if Bordeaux had won the Ligue 2 championship and been promoted to the Ligue 1 league.
Even though Bordeaux owner Gerard Lopez claimed they planned to keep Maja until the 2023–24 campaign, ongoing negotiations between the two parties failed on Tuesday, and the one-cap Super Eagles forward had to exit the club.
Maja has attracted attention from top clubs in France and other major leagues this summer as a free agent but his next destination is not known yet.
Glasgow Rangers, a Scottish rangers, are one of the clubs interested in the Nigerian player despite being close to agreeing to a €5 million deal for his compatriot Cyril Dessers.
Before joining Bordeaux on January 26, 2019, Josh Maja made his Sunderland debut in January 2019 and played 100 games there.
The out-of-favor Nigeria international scored 29 goals across all competitions while he was a player for the French club. He spent time on loan at Fulham and then Stoke City while still with the club.
