The Nigeria Police Force has secured a two-year seat on the Interpol Africa Committee following the election of Olubode Ojajuni, a commissioner of police, at the 27th African Regional Conference in Cape Town, South Africa.
Ojajuni’s victory earned Nigeria the fifth seat on the committee after a closely contested election.
The Interpol Africa Committee advises the regional conference on its mandate, facilitates its sessions, and identifies strategic crime priorities. It also strengthens cross-border police cooperation, promotes best practices, and develops projects to enhance regional and continental security.
The Nigeria Police said the achievement highlights the country’s growing influence in global law enforcement, particularly in combating transnational crime, terrorism, and other emerging threats.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, congratulated Ojajuni on the win and reaffirmed the force’s commitment to professionalism, integrity, and international cooperation. He added that the Nigeria Police would continue to actively engage with global partners to promote peace and security worldwide.
