Nigeria and Angola have signed a Visa Waiver Agreement for holders of Diplomatic and Official/Service Passports, marking a step toward strengthening bilateral relations.
The agreement was signed on February 15, 2026, on the sidelines of the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Under the deal, eligible passport holders from both countries will no longer require visas for official duties, short visits, or transit. The move is expected to ease diplomatic travel, enhance government-to-government cooperation, and promote high-level exchanges between Abuja and Luanda.
The signing aligns with broader continental integration efforts under the African Union and its Agenda 2063 framework.
Kashim Shettima represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the summit.
Observers say the pact will boost intra-African mobility, deepen mutual trust, and further Nigeria’s push for visa liberalisation across the continent.
