Nick Reiner is scheduled to enter a plea Monday on murder charges stemming from the fatal stabbings of his parents, acclaimed director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Reiner, late last year.
The 32-year-old faces two counts of first-degree murder, along with the special circumstance allegation of multiple murders.
Reiner had been expected to enter a plea at a hearing last month in Los Angeles, but proceedings were postponed after his attorney, Alan Jackson, withdrew from the case during the court appearance. Reiner agreed to delay his arraignment and was subsequently appointed a public defender.
He remains in custody without bail.
Speaking to reporters after withdrawing, Jackson said the decision was due to “circumstances beyond our control, but more importantly, circumstances beyond Nick’s control.” He added that under California law, Reiner is presumed not guilty.
A spokesperson for the Reiner family previously said they have “the utmost trust in the legal process” and declined further comment regarding the ongoing proceedings.
The case continues as Reiner prepares to formally respond to the charges in court.
