NAFDAC Medical Workers Resume Work, Suspends 41-day Strike

A 41-day indefinite strike by members of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control branch of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria was suspended on Monday.

Mr. Ayodeji Adetoboye, the union’s secretary, disclosed this in an interview with The PUNCH.

The health workers embarked on strike on June 21, 2022, among other things, to protest inadequate welfare benefits and unpaid promotion arrears.

NAFDAC workers continue strike, fault management on welfare

Speaking with PUNCH, Adetoboye said, “We just suspended the strike today (Monday). An agreement has been signed and it is expected that much should be done before year-end or the strike will continue.”

According to Adetoboye, the agreement was made by Joseph Ekumankama, Minister of State for Health, the NAFDAC management, Ministry of Labor and Employment representatives, and MHWUN representatives.

The signed agreement obtained by our correspondent noted that “the union agreed to shift ground on the payment of 2021 promotion arrears. It is no longer a basis for the suspension of the strike but should be paid by September 2022. “The balance of the 20% hazard allowance should be paid to all staff immediately before the strike is suspended.
