The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, is calling upon leaders of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to cultivate unity in the face of the ongoing internal leadership crisis that the union has been experiencing for several months.

The minister, who welcomed the acting national president of the union, Comrade Aliyu Issa Ore, and members of the newly constituted executive in Abuja, assured them of the federal government’s readiness to implement all agreements with the labor unions. Emphasizing the significance of unity and collaboration within the unions, she assured of President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to fostering broader peace in the country.

In addition, the permanent secretary of the ministry, Ismaila Abubakar, highlighted that the federal government recognizes the unions as crucial stakeholders for maintaining peace and contributing to good governance. He affirmed the ministry’s ongoing support, expressing their readiness to offer guidance and advice to the union leaders while urging proactive conflict resolution.

“It is gratifying to witness your convergence, indicating peace and harmony within the union. Progress is only possible when we have peace and harmony.” Abubakar stated. Previously, the acting national president of the union informed the minister that the NURTW has witnessed peace, unity, and progress following the intervention of the federal government. Ore reiterated the union’s gratitude and goodwill towards the ministry for aiding the union in achieving this milestone.

He appealed to the minister to persist in upholding truth, justice, and impartiality, ensuring that the union experiences continued industrial peace and harmony in the country. The acting president also committed to ongoing collaboration and synergy with the ministry.
