Mike Jeffries Arrested in Alleged International Sex Trafficking Operation

Former Abercrombie & Fitch CEO Mike Jeffries, along with two associates, was arrested on Tuesday as part of a federal investigation into an alleged international sex trafficking and prostitution ring, according to the FBI and prosecutors.

Jeffries, his partner Matt Smith, and a third individual, Jim Jacobson, face charges in a 16-count indictment accusing them of running a sex trafficking operation that involved recruiting young men for events in the U.S. and abroad. Prosecutors allege that Jeffries and Smith leveraged their substantial financial resources, Jeffries’ influence as CEO, and a network of employees, contractors, and security personnel to maintain secrecy around the illicit activities.

The indictment details allegations that over a seven-year period starting in 2008, the trio paid dozens of men to travel globally to participate in sex acts. Fifteen individuals, referred to as John Does #1-#15, have been identified as victims in the case. Jeffries is accused of employing household staff to organize and oversee these so-called “Sex Events.”

According to prosecutors, Jacobson played a key role by traveling across the U.S. and internationally to recruit and vet men for these events. Prosecutors claim that during “tryouts,” Jacobson required candidates to engage in sexual activities with him before being considered for the events.

Federal authorities believe there are additional victims and are encouraging them to come forward with information.
