British police have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with a fire that broke out at a property formerly linked to Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The incident, which occurred early Monday morning in Kentish Town, north London, has triggered a broader investigation led by the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command.
The property, located within Starmer’s parliamentary constituency, was the family residence before his move to 10 Downing Street in July last year. Emergency services responded to reports of a blaze at the address, and while no injuries were reported, authorities have classified the incident as serious.
The suspect was taken into custody in the early hours of Tuesday and is currently being questioned. Police say he is being investigated not only for the fire at Starmer’s former home but also for two other recent incidents: a car fire reported on May 8 and a fire at the entrance of a nearby building on May 11, both in the same area.
While the motive remains under investigation, the high-profile nature of the case has led counter-terrorism officers to oversee the inquiry. It has not been confirmed whether the attacks were politically driven.
The suspect is being held on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life—a grave charge reflecting the potential risks posed by the incidents. Authorities are continuing to examine any possible connections between the fires and have appealed to the public for information.
