Malami Slams APC’s 2027 Endorsement, Accuses Party of Neglecting Governance

Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) for prioritizing early politicking over governance, accusing the ruling party of neglecting Nigeria’s urgent socioeconomic challenges.

Speaking at the National Political Consultative Group (North) meeting in Abuja, Malami expressed deep concern over the nation’s worsening insecurity, economic hardship, and rising poverty. He faulted party leaders for focusing on premature electoral campaigns while Nigerians continue to suffer.

“Just a few days ago, the ruling party held its national summit and instead of addressing the serious issues of insecurity, economic hardship, and rising poverty, it chose to focus on politics, endorsing President Bola Tinubu as sole candidate for the 2027 election that is still two years away,” he said.

Malami condemned the recent endorsement of President Tinubu by APC governors and party stalwarts as “premature” and “insensitive to the plight of Nigerians.”

The former minister also criticized the removal of fuel subsidy, describing the policy as “unplanned” and saying it has further deepened the economic struggles faced by citizens.

His comments highlight growing internal dissent within the APC, as disillusionment mounts over the administration’s policy choices and perceived shift from effective governance to early electoral strategizing.
