Makinde Defends Ibadan Circular Road Demolition, Assures Citizens’ Well-Being

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has defended the ongoing marking and planned demolition of houses to facilitate the construction of the Senator Rashidi Ladoja Road (Ibadan Circular Road). Speaking to protesters at the Secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan, the governor assured that his administration would prioritize the well-being of all citizens.

Makinde clarified that his government had not acquired any new land for the project, referencing decisions made by previous administrations. He explained that while former governors Lam Adesina and Rashidi Ladoja set a 150-metre corridor for the project, former Governor Abiola Ajimobi extended the corridor by acquiring an additional 350 metres, totaling 500 metres.

The governor reassured residents that buildings within the extended 500-metre corridor but outside the original 150 metres would not be demolished, urging affected residents to appoint representatives to work with the government on how to accommodate existing structures.

Makinde further emphasized that no new developments should take place within the corridor, warning that any new constructions would not be allowed in the ongoing arrangement. He also announced a halt to any current demolitions, ensuring that those with completed structures in the area could rest easy for now.

Appreciating the peaceful protests, Makinde reiterated that the Circular Road project aims to generate employment and industrial opportunities, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the welfare of Oyo State’s residents while pushing forward with the state’s development goals.
