American ski star Lindsey Vonn crashed early in the Olympic downhill on Sunday, remaining on the snow as medical staff attended to her injured left knee.
The 41-year-old lost control during the opening traverse after taking an aggressive line, spinning out and coming to a stop. Race officials temporarily halted the event while Vonn was evaluated by medics on the course.
Vonn entered the Games as one of the most closely watched and inspirational figures in the field. After nearly six years away from top-level competition, she returned to elite racing last season following a partial titanium knee replacement in her right knee. A surgery in April 2024 left her feeling strong enough to pursue one more Olympic run, making her comeback one of the headline stories of the Games.
