Leverkusen’s 35-Match Unbeaten Run Ends with 3-2 Defeat to Leipzig

Bayer Leverkusen’s remarkable 35-match unbeaten run came to an end as they suffered a 3-2 home defeat against RB Leipzig.
This loss marks their first league defeat since May 2023.
Leverkusen initially dominated the match with goals from Jeremie Frimpong and Alex Grimaldo, taking a 2-0 lead.
However, Leipzig mounted a comeback, with Kevin Kampl scoring just before halftime and Lois Openda equalizing early in the second half. Openda secured Leipzig’s victory with a decisive goal ten minutes from time, ending Leverkusen’s impressive streak.
Leverkusen’s captain, Jonathan Tah, voiced his frustration over the defensive errors, stating, “We had the chance to finish the game, but the goals we conceded were far too easy. We fell asleep a few times, and of course, we’re going to be punished.”
The defeat also ended Leverkusen’s 43-match unbeaten streak in domestic competitions, which had spanned 463 days. Despite their late push for an equalizer, including several close attempts, Leverkusen could not overcome Leipzig’s late surge.
