Lagos State Office of Sustainable Development Goals and Investment, yesterday, gave cash gifts to 50 outstanding volunteers for their contributions to the growth of the state.
The 50 volunteers, who were selected from the Lagos State Volunteer Corps (LSVC), which has a 7,000 membership, were awarded N50,000 each at a retreat with the theme, “Volunteer now for our common future,” held in Lagos to mark the International Volunteer Day.
Country Coordinator, United Nations (UN) Volunteers, Veronica Obiuwevbi, noted that the UN is celebrating its 50th anniversary of volunteering in Nigeria and decided to acknowledge the efforts of the volunteers.
Permanent Secretary, Office of Sustainable Development Goals and Investment, Abosede George, noted that the selection was based on the volunteers’ participation in various projects, such as community cleanup, tree planting, and others.
