The Kogi State House of Assembly has called for the immediate removal of the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, citing alleged unprofessional conduct in the handling of the case against former Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

The demand came during a plenary session held in Lokoja, where lawmakers condemned what they described as unprovoked attacks by EFCC operatives on the Kogi State Government Lodge. The assembly labeled these incidents, which occurred on April 17 and September 18, as assassination attempts on former Governor Yahaya Bello and a direct threat to the current Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo.

Hon. Akus Lawal of Ankpa 1 State constituency raised the motion, supported by Hon. Jacob Olawunmi of Ijumu State constituency. The lawmakers accused the EFCC of firing live rounds within a diplomatic zone during the confrontations, claiming that the commission had overstepped its mandate.

The Speaker of the Assembly stressed that the EFCC had strayed from its core mission of fighting corruption. Consequently, the assembly urged President Bola Tinubu to dismiss Olukoyede and appoint a more competent individual to lead the commission in enforcing the rule of law.
