U.S. Vice President JD Vance has acknowledged that the war in Ukraine is unlikely to end soon, urging both Russia and Ukraine to take responsibility for pursuing peace.
In an interview with Bret Baier on Fox News’ Special Report, Vance said the conflict has reached a stage where both sides are well aware of each other’s demands, suggesting that further progress now hinges on direct engagement between Moscow and Kyiv.
“It’s going to be up to the Russians and Ukrainians now that each side knows what the other’s terms for peace are,” Vance stated. “It’s going to be up to them to come to an agreement and stop this brutal, brutal conflict.”
He added candidly, “It’s not going anywhere, Bret. It’s not going to end any time soon.”
Vance’s comments reflect a growing shift in Washington’s posture, as the Biden administration previously took a more active role in mediating the conflict. His remarks signal a new emphasis on encouraging direct diplomacy between the two sides as fighting continues and peace talks remain stalled.
