Israeli Airstrikes Kill Nine in Gaza as Military Cites Hamas Ceasefire Violations

At least nine Palestinians were killed Sunday in Israeli airstrikes across northern and southern Gaza, according to Palestinian civil defense and health authorities, as Israel said it was responding to alleged ceasefire violations by Hamas.

Medical officials said four people were killed when an Israeli strike hit a tent camp sheltering displaced families. In a separate strike in the southern city of Khan Younis, five more people were killed, health authorities reported.

The Israeli military said it launched the strikes after what it described as a “blatant violation” of the October ceasefire agreement in the Beit Hanoun area. An Israeli military official said militants had emerged from a tunnel east of the so-called “Yellow Line,” the boundary established under the ceasefire to separate Israeli- and Hamas-controlled zones.

The official described the strikes as “precise” and consistent with international law, and accused Hamas of committing more than six ceasefire breaches since October, including deploying fighters east of the demarcation line.

“Crossing the Yellow Line in the vicinity of IDF troops while armed is an explicit ceasefire violation and demonstrates how Hamas systematically violates the agreement with intent to harm IDF forces,” the official said.
