The Federal Government has reacted to an impeachment threat against President Muhammadu Buhari by some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senators, saying it was working round the clock to bring the security situation under control.
Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed who addressed State House Correspondents after the week’s virtual Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, however, commended the Senators for their patriotism and concerns, saying steps were being taken.
Senators on opposition political platforms, including Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) on Wednesday called out Buhari over the escalating security situation, giving him a six-week ultimatum to sort the situation out or be served an impeachment notice.
Responding to questions from correspondents over the impeachment threat, Mohammed said: “Resolution passed by Senator, as rightly said, it was passed when we were deliberating, but we thank them for their patriotism and their concern, but we are working round the clock, 24 hours, to ensure that the situation is brought under control”. The Minister also described the reported threat by terrorists to kidnap the President as laughable and mere propaganda.
