INEC Releases Details of 16 Candidates for Anambra Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday published the particulars of 16 candidates nominated for the November 8 Anambra State governorship election.

In a statement, Sam Olumekun, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, confirmed the publication followed the completion of party primaries by 16 political parties and the timely submission of nomination forms by the May 12 deadline.

Candidate details including personal information, running mates, academic qualifications, and other documents have been displayed at INEC’s state headquarters and all 21 local government offices across Anambra State, in line with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022.

Olumekun urged the public and aspirants to scrutinize the documents carefully, warning that any candidate found to have submitted false information can be legally challenged at the Federal High Court under Section 29(5) of the Electoral Act 2022.

He further announced that the final list of candidates would be published on June 9, at least 150 days before the election date, as required by Section 32(1) of the Electoral Act 2022.

This development marks a key milestone in the lead-up to one of Nigeria’s most closely watched governorship elections.
