Former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has declared that he would defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election if he emerges as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate.
Speaking on Saturday during a conversation on X Spaces, Amaechi said he knows Tinubu’s “strengths and weaknesses” and is confident of victory if given the ADC ticket.
“I know Tinubu very well. I know his strengths. I know his weaknesses. And I know that if allowed to fly the flag of ADC, I will defeat Tinubu for sure,” he said. “I challenge any politician, living or dead, to come forward and say I was part of rigging.”
Amaechi maintained that he has never engaged in election rigging and has repeatedly turned down invitations to serve on APC election planning committees. He accused governors and certain government agencies of facilitating electoral malpractice, adding that he would reveal more details if he wins the ADC primaries.
“I will never participate in any rigging whatsoever… What I promise to do now, going forward, is to stop rigging,” he vowed, stating he would apologise only if proven guilty of electoral fraud.
Amaechi also admitted that Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, “won in Rivers state” in the 2023 election, despite official results indicating otherwise.
The former Rivers State governor, who has pledged to serve only one term if elected, reiterated his support for the power rotation principle between the north and south.
